Rosa Ortiz

Hello,
My name is Rosa Ortiz. I am a storyboard artist and a freelance illustrator from Hagerstown Maryland, who has graduated SCAD with a BFA in Sequential Art. My love for storyboarding has rooted from my intake in animated movies or TV shows, whether that’d be 2D animated or 3D animated. I’ve always been intrigued at the process a cartoon episode or movie would undergo, to later find out that storyboarding is a huge factor in that. I love the different approaches of scenes, camera angles, and gestures a storyboard can contain when an episode or scene from a movie is in progress. I have been given the opportunity to work alongside my mentor Robert Castillo, who is a professor at SCAD, to show me and teach me what it is like to storyboard for advertisements, animations, live action films. Storyboarding has shown me as an artist that there are many possible ways to approach the script when it comes to visual storytelling.
As for being a freelance illustrator I have had the pleasure to work with to separate clients after graduating. I’ve had the opportunity to create a small children’s book with my client, as I was asked to illustrate the front cover and the rest of the pages. As for the second opportunity I was asked to create educational flash cards with illustrations that read well to a child who is special needs. Not only did the illustrations matter for this but the font for each flash card was to be abbreviated and easily readable for the intended audience. Being an illustrator has opened many new opportunities for me as I am able to use my artistic skills for projects that I have never experienced before. My love for illustrations has rooted from reading many different mediums of children’s books while growing up. This allows me to focus on what I, as an illustrator, would like to incorporate or experiment on when creating illustrations for a young audience. Both Illustration and storyboarding has become a huge factor in my life. I continue to learn new methods and allow mistakes to happen along the way of my artistic career.
